Fiana Heidari, MSW, RSW

Languages: English, Farsi

Hi, I’m Fiana, a clinical social worker based in Toronto. If you’re contemplating change in any area of your life that feels important to you, I commend you for taking that courageous first step of reaching out for support. Together, we’ll work through roadblocks with greater inner awareness and self-compassion — and while the process won’t always be linear, you’ll build the capacity to find support within, which we’ll cultivate together, moment by moment. I draw from a range of approaches tailored to your specific needs, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, emotion-focused therapy, the Gottman Method for couples, and solution-focused therapy. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief and loss, trauma, OCD, eating disorders, phobias, body-image and self-esteem, stress management, life transitions, parenting, and relationship and communication challenges. I also work with the LGBTQ+ community and bring an anti-oppressive, anti-racist lens to every session. I work with adults, couples, students, and children, and as a registered social worker, I also support clients in connecting with community resources such as housing, settlement services, and employment support. Given that you are the author of your own life, my goal is to create a space where you feel empowered to engage actively in the process — connecting to your inner experience with gentle curiosity, and moving toward a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

I am a Registered Social Worker with over 10 years of experience walking alongside individuals and couples as they navigate life’s challenges. I am deeply committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful space, guided by my belief in gender equality and a strong appreciation for multicultural identities. I primarily speak Hindi and English, and also understand Punjabi and Gujarati, allowing me to connect with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds in a meaningful way.

At the heart of my work is a genuine passion for supporting people through difficult moments and helping them move toward healing, growth, and a more fulfilling life. I have extensive experience working with women who have experienced domestic violence and feel honored to support clients as they reconnect with their strength, rebuild their sense of self, and create new possibilities for their future. I believe that each person already holds the capacity for change within them. My role is to gently support that process—helping clients recognize their strengths, shift unhelpful patterns, and regain a sense of control and balance in their lives. I value building a trusting, collaborative relationship where clients feel truly seen, heard, and understood.

Outside of my professional role, I am a proud mom of two children. I prioritize my own mental and physical well-being through self-compassion and self-care. I have a passion for cooking, enjoy spending time in nature, and value maintaining a healthy and meaningful social life. These practices help me stay grounded and bring balance into both my personal and professional life.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and a background in both healthcare and mental health settings. I work primarily with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, grief, emotional overwhelm, and challenges related to identity, culture, and family dynamics.

As someone with a bicultural background, I understand that our experiences are shaped by culture, family, values, and the communities we belong to. I strive to create an inclusive and culturally responsive therapeutic environment where clients feel respected and understood in the context of their lived experiences. I also offer therapy in both English and Arabic, allowing clients to express themselves in the language that feels most natural and comfortable.

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and integrative. I draw from evidence-based and insight-oriented modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic approaches, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. Rather than relying on a single model, I will work with you to find approaches that best support your goals, strengths, and needs.

My intention is to support you in moving at a pace that feels safe and meaningful, while creating space for insight, growth, and self-compassion to develop over time.

I believe healing begins when you feel safe enough to be truly seen, heard, and understood. Reaching out for support can feel difficult, especially when you’ve been carrying things on your own for a long time. My role is to offer you a calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you don’t have to do that anymore. Here, your story is honoured with care, and we move at a pace that feels right for you.

A key part of my work is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. Sometimes, painful memories remain “stuck,” continuing to affect how we feel, think, and respond in the present. EMDR gently supports your brain in reprocessing these experiences using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping), helping to reduce emotional intensity and create a greater sense of calm, clarity, and control.

I support individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and overwhelming life experiences. Whether your struggles feel recent or deeply rooted, we work together to gently understand what you’re going through and find ways to help you feel more grounded and supported. My approach is trauma-informed, solution focused, culturally sensitive, and grounded in evidence-based care.

I have completed formal training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) through Wilfrid Laurier University, and I integrate CBT alongside Emotion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. Together, we explore how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are connected, while also building practical tools to support healing and everyday functioning.

I have also completed training in Couples Therapy through the Gottman Institute, which supports my work with partners navigating communication challenges, conflict, and rebuilding connection.

I work with a wide range of concerns, including trauma, PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders, postpartum challenges, addictions, emotional regulation, and relationship difficulties. I also support individuals experiencing grief and loss, intimate partner violence, workplace stress, bullying, and the impacts of narcissistic abuse.

I have a particular interest in supporting first responders, immigrants, refugees, and individuals navigating major life transitions, racial trauma, or palliative experiences. My work often includes a focus on the mind-body connection, helping your nervous system move from overwhelm toward safety and balance.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief:

You are not broken, you have been doing your best to cope.

With the right support, healing is possible. You can feel more like yourself again, with greater clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of hope.

It is truly a privilege to walk alongside you in that journey.

I believe healing begins when you feel safe enough to be truly seen, heard, and understood. Reach... Read More

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and experience supporting adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship concerns, stress, and self-esteem challenges. My clinical experience includes working in private practice, supporting individuals recovering from motor vehicle accidents, and providing grief and bereavement support. My work in these settings has deepened my understanding of loss, resilience, caregiving, and the complexities of navigating life’s most difficult transitions.

I have also contributed to mental health research and community-based initiatives, experiences that continue to inform my evidence-based and culturally responsive approach to care. I understand the importance of culture, identity, family dynamics, and belonging in shaping our experiences. I strive to create a space where clients from diverse backgrounds feel respected, understood, and empowered.

I recognize that every person’s story is unique.
